I haven't posted in DA for awhile now. For those who're watching me, I'm not dead! lol. My last submission was in August of 2012, so it's been quite awhile. I've actually been working on improving my art.. I just haven't been posting.
Well anyways, this contest caught my eye and I thought I'd go all out on it. I tried to bring in as much as I can from the asset pack and the provided trailer while specifically focusing on Lara Croft's natural beauty as described in the asset pack. That's why I was quite conservative with the dirt and blood. I wanted time to appear as if it were moving backwards as the foreground recedes off into the background in grey to depict her transformation and resourcefulness as a survivor. The negative spaces of the two trees that frames Lara are in sort of an hourglass shape to represent the forward moving time. As for Lara herself, she is emerging from below in discovery with a stance reminiscent of an explorer which depicts her continued love for archaeology and exploration as well as her athleticism. Her eyes, however has a fearless look of focus to depict her deep well of inner strength that she summoned up along her journey. I still tried to leave a hint of innocence in her expression though. And if I did my research correctly, Lara is 21 in this new reboot, so I tried my best to make her look 21; I even ensured that her face as a focal point looks young and beautiful by painting her face at 100% zoom level. I also tried my best to make the world she's in look as close as possible to the game so people can draw the connection between the image and the new reboot well. And finally, the lit foreground, corpse, and arrows serve as an indication of a dangerous area that she is fearlessly headed towards, hence the title of this image.
It'd be nice to at least make it to the semi-finals. I realized that my image doesn't seem like a poster people would buy, so I probably don't have a chance lol.
